When we first came to you, we were so worried about our family. We have learned so much about our child and we thank you for that. We know that being his parent is a huge responsibility and we want to do the very best we can. We appreciate everything you have taught us.

See who Amy serves…

  • Children

Play Therapy is offered for children ages 2-10. It is a theoretically based approach to therapy that is developmentally appropriate for young children. Amy views children holistically and uses the therapeutic relationship with them to explore their feelings, thoughts, behaviors and perceptions. Children do not communicate the same way adults do. Children require therapists who understand and specialize in their unique developmental and emotional needs and Amy does. She customizes treatment to suit their individual situations. In a safe, child-friendly environment, Amy patiently helps children learn about themselves and develop positive ways to navigate through life.

  • Pre-Adolescents and Adolescents

Working with today's teenagers means understanding them and Amy sure does. Individual therapy sessions are appropriate for older, highly verbal pre-adolescents and adolescents. Adolescents will often engage in more traditional talk therapy, but because of the complexity of their lives, specialized techniques may be used to help create an easier way for them to express themselves. Amy respects teens and they know it. She has the ability to connect with them and then compassionately, yet skillfully, help them understand themselves, their relationships and their way of doing life.

  • Parents

Amy believes the most influential person in a child's life is the parent and this relationship is the single most important factor for determining the course of a child's life. Because research shows that parents are integral to the process and can significantly enhance the effectiveness of therapy, her first appointment is with the parents only. This time is spent together for Amy to gain an understanding of their concerns, assess the needs of the family and make a plan together. Parental involvement beyond the initial intake session is different for every family. Whether it is sessions with or without the child, Amy communicates regularly with parents as she offers them tools to enhance their parenting skills that will ensure the optimal outcome for therapy. Parenting can be enjoyable and rewarding and she will look for ways to make that happen for you.

  • Families

By working with the entire family or subsets of the family, Amy formulates a comprehensive set of hypotheses about their worlds so she can help them understand the connection between those beliefs and their behaviors. By working together as a team, she helps them improve the way they interact with each other and resolve their difficulties. Then she empowers and encourages them all to make real changes for a more harmonious and satisfying family life.
